Tru-Flyte Knife Throwing

The History, Practice & Legacy of a Unique Martial Art

Following a late-1950s meeting with Harry K. McEvoy (Tru-Balance Cutlery), Charles Gruzanski dedicated his work to formalizing the discipline of sports knife throwing. In 1964, they co-authored the definitive instructional manual "Knife Throwing as a Modern Sport".In June 1964, Gruzanski organized the Tru-Flyte Knife Throwers of America as the nation's first regulated league.He independently funded and published exactly 7 issues of The Knife Thrower magazine until 1966.

The Tru-Flyte organization helped shape its growth, standards, and global community.

Tru-Flyte Knife Throwers of America

Founded in 1964 by Charles Gruzanski with the support of Harry K. McEvoy, Tru-Flyte Knife Throwers of America became the first national organization dedicated to promoting knife throwing as a modern sport. The organization established standards for safety, competition, technique, and sportsmanship while bringing together pioneers, craftsmen, collectors, and enthusiasts from across the country.
