Hakko Ryu Ju Jitsu

八光流柔術

Principles, Philosophy, and Practice

Hakkō Ryū is a classical Japanese martial art founded by Okuyama Ryūhō in 1940. It is built on the principle of controlling the opponent without resistance or injury, using pressure points, posture, and relaxed movement

無傷害

不抵抗不挑戦

The Core Philosophy

“Do not resist, challenge one another and there will be no injury.”

This simple yet profound teaching is the foundation of Hakkō Ryū. It guides every movement, every technique, and every interaction.

MY FATHER’S CONNECTION

My father, Charles Gruzanski, was introduced to Hakkō Ryū through his studies in Japan and by James Benko. He embraced its principles deeply, particularly the emphasis on control without harm.

These teachings influenced his approach to martial arts, instruction, and life.

The art is not in defeating your opponent, but in understanding them.
